Pet-Friendly Golf Vacation

Taking your family on a summer vacation is an old scene in many destinations but taking your pet along in your vacation is what’s becoming popular.

The Travel Industry Association said that in 2002, 14 % of U.S. adults have traveled with a pet and in 2007, TripAdvisor pinned it at 50 percent. Yet, taking pets on a golf vacation is never easy. Although there are hotels and inns that allow pets to stay, it is harder to find golf resorts that accommodate pets and are pet-friendly.

At Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa, with a $35 per night pet fee, you and your pet are very welcome. It is a two-course property located on a very small and remote-feeling land mass off of Hilton Head Island, S.C. The place is very conducive to pets and a charming place to go on golf vacation. It’s a beach-oriented, laid back place, and with only a handful of cars on the entire island, most people get around on foot, on bicycles, or on golf carts. You can let your pet run around and enjoy the view of this oceanfront resort, even without its leash on! Your dog also receives a canine goodie bag at check in.

A team from Golf Vacation Insider has investigated the resort in their unannounced visit. They spent nights at the Inn at Melrose and its beach cottages, enjoyed the food in all restaurants, played golf at Melrose and Bloody Point and explored almost every attraction. They were not disappointed, everything was great and maybe far better than what they expected.
